Georgetown/Penang

Arrived late afternoon after a long bus ride and a short ferry trip, and checked into Love Lane Inn (great friendly clean place), and wandered around the old colonial area.

Met an Irish guy called Wayne in my hostel and we took a bus to Kek Lok Si Temple. Also tried to go up Penang Hill but waiting time was about 4 hours (it’s a public holiday here, end of ramadan).

Enjoyed the indian food (like thosai masala, chicken tandoori with naan, roti cannai, banana leaf meal) in Georgetown and occasionally some chinese snacks like egg tarts and bap pau (steamed buns).

I ate all that, only with my right hand. Here, people use there left hand when going to the toilet, so you can only use your right hand. And the indian people don’t generally use cutlery.

Caught up with Katie and Rob again, got some work done with the free wifi, and had my laundry done for the first time in 6 weeks (I’ve been washing it myself by hand).

Took the bus to Penang Hill again and endured the 3 hour waiting time with food, internet and the malaysia women’s weekly. Which made me realise how long it’s been since I’ve read/bought magazines like that (like cosmo and cleo etc too), and that 90% of it didn’t interest me at all. I should have bought a newspaper.
