Cameron Highlands

Took a minibus to Tanah Rata in the Cameron Highlands and in the afternoon walked up a hill to tudor hotel and had fancy(read:expensive) scones with jam and tea).

Met a fun bunch of people here and the climate is awesome (sunny but not hot and humid during the day, bit cold at night), so decided to chill out here for a few days
Spending time reading, playing a card game called ‘shithead’ (gets played by backpackers everywhere apparently) and drinking the occasional whiskey and coke (beer and wine is too expensive here).

Did a full day tour which included a bit of 4WDing (roughest I’ve ever done!), a 2hr jungle trek to see the world’s largest flower, Rafflesia, swim in a waterfall, see a tea plantation, strawberry farm and butterfly farm with lots of big insects.

Good lord! That’s one of those rotting scented flowers I’ve always read about. My dad hates those with a vengeance. So how did it smell? Is it really that bad?

  2. Simone says:

Didn’t smell a thing! But that’s because I didn’t get close enough. Other girl stuck her nose right inside and said it stank like a toilet. So…I guess it’s not that bad. Also saw flowers that had finished flowering and were crumbling and black, but didn’t smell them either.
