New camera

Again

At the July Perth Bloggers Meetup I discovered (with Skribe) that I couldn’t change the ISO on my little Nikon point and shoot. So ever since then I’ve wanted a different one, as I do like to shoot a lot of photos in low light!

After a full week of research, I ended up buying the Canon Powershot A710 IS, after nearly deciding on the Canon S3 IS or Fuji S6500. What it came down to, was that they are practically dslr (big ‘proper’ cameras) and I wanted one I could still carry around in my small bag. I didn’t really think I’d need the 10x optical zoom anyway, but did think I wanted more than 3x. So I got the A710 IS, which has 6x optical zoom, 7megapixels, image stabilisation, auto settings and many manual settings. What I’m really liking (while I haven’t learned about all the manual settings yet), is the ability to have an ‘High ISO’ setting while on Auto. The photos might have a bit of noise (I think that’s what it’s called), but at least they’re not blurry!

And who knows, maybe in the future I will really get into photography and get a dslr, we’ll see! After joining the Photographers in Perth group (PIP) on Flickr to ask for advice, and reading some of their threads (including this month’s project Dare to be Bare!), I feel really inspired! I even started working on an entry for this month, but soon realised it wasn’t really in the spirit of the project, and similar things had been done for the January project, Face On! And it just doesn’t feel creative anough (there’s many groups out there dedicated to eye photos!), even though for me it is.
But here it is anyway:

Left Eye

I spent hours taking different photos trying to get the reflection to a minimum, or different, but got sick of it after about 300 photos and this one showed my iris the clearest. By the way, this is my left eye, my right one is much more brown (big splotches).
