My family got it’s first computer in August 1995. All I remember is that is was a pentium something, it was bought in Bunbury, WA, and we played the golf game, Need for Speed, Patience, Jezzball and it had Encarta.
I think we got internet at home in about 1997 and I probably got Hotmail around that time, but it could have been a lot later. I definetly had Hotmail in 2000. This was all in The Netherlands. I emailed with friends in Australia.
After our holiday in Australia in 2000, Pascal made a website about our travels. I only typed out the text. Pascal was working as a graphic designer at this stage, and started building and designing more and more websites.
Later around 2004 Pascal made me a website for an ‘Immigration FAQ’. I wrote the text for this in Adobe Golive, but didn’t do anything else. In July 2004 we made a website for our move to Australia, I only wrote the text, and we didn’t update this after August 04.
In March 2005 I discovered blogs. I decided to start a Blogger blog almost immediately, to keep friends and family updated about our life in Australia. I back posted back to July 2004, and added an ‘autobiography’.
On 15 November 2005 I got a Flickr pro account. I had to get a friend to buy it for me, as I didn’t have a paypal account set up yet. Before that I’d had a free flickr account for a few months, and previously I’d used Imagestation to store and share all our photos for friends and family, and Photobucket a bit for putting photos on forums.
On 29 January 2006 I wrote the following entry at 43 things:
Id like to change over from Blogger to Movable Type one day, with own domain name etc. Not yet though, and dont want to confuse relatives too much by changing address again. And I have to figure it all out yet, though I think I already do well by changing my template in blogger.
I was still quite confused then though, the title of the entry was ‘WordPress’, but I was talking about Movable Type!
On 31 March 2006 I registered my first domain name, setup WordPress on it (all with a bit of Pascal’s help) and imported all my Blogger posts. My main reasons were categories, more control and an own domain name.
I think it was in April 2006 I first had the idea for Enjoy Perth!, and set it up a free account on WordPress.com. It only took a few days before I decided I needed a domain name, just in case I was to become serious with it, I didn’t want to have to move it again!
On 11 April 2006 I setup WordPress on http://www.enjoyperth.net
On 3 May 06 I created a Gmail account for Enjoy Perth! On 18 May I sent out an email to friends and family ‘launching’ the blog, and asking for feedback. None was recieved, though I wasn’t surprised as none were/are really into blogging!
At the end of May 2006 I began making my blog ‘public’, listing it in seach engines, blog listings and forums.
On 1 July 06 I setup WordPress on http://kids.enjoyperth.net and this blog, and launched Kids Enjoy Perth! around 9 July.
And so it continues……
